FINALIST: Primary Care Innovation of the Year
Carbs & Cals World Foods
Carbs & Cals World Foods was co-written by Dr Joan St John, a GP with specialist interest in diabetes, and Salma Mehar, a Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, in collaboration with the North West London Diabetes Transformation Programme.
In 2019, the book was shortlisted for the Primary Care Innovation of the Year award at the prestigious Health Service Journal Awards.

Quality in Care Diabetes Awards 2019
WINNER: Diabetes Collaboration of the Year
Carbs & Cals World Foods
At the Quality in Care Diabetes Awards 2019, we won the award for Diabetes Collaboration of the Year for the Carbs & Cals World Foods book. With the help of our expert co-authors Dr Joan St John and Salma Mehar, we created this carb-counting guide to help improve access to diabetes education in the Arabic, Caribbean, South Asian and African communities.

WINNER: Elizabeth Washington Award
Carbs & Cals Gestational Diabetes
In 2019, Carbs & Cals Gestational Diabetes won the Elizabeth Washington Award for a published/presented educational work.
Award hosts The British Dietetic Association said: “The book is now widely recommended by dietitians across the UK and is the only published book for gestational diabetes that is supported by Diabetes UK.”

WINNER: Best Dietary Management Initiative
Carbs & Cals
In 2014, Carbs & Cals was awarded Best Dietary Management Initiative at the Quality in Care Diabetes Awards in recognition of its contribution to diabetes education.
At the time, the Carbs & Cals system consisted only of the Carb & Calorie Counter and Pocket Counter books, app and flashcards. Since then, we’ve added 7 more books, published in various languages, upgraded the app, and added a host of kits, posters, videos and other resources.
